Iyengar yoga

The Sanskrit word Yog, means to join or yoke. Yoga practice is a means to make oneself whole by training the mind and uncovering the profound core of being.  It is a blend of body poses (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation (dhyana).

Iyengar yoga is a form of hatha yoga (physical) developed by master BKS Iyengar, the most influential teacher of yoga in the world.  Poses are explored with a careful and precise alignment to understand the living architecture of the body.

Progressive, safe and profoundly transformative, Iyengar yoga builds inner strength and stamina, flexibility and balance, concentration and meditation.  The Iyengar certification mark is a sign of excellence, clarity, and depth of understanding.

I have been practicing yoga for 21 years and teaching for 16 years around the world (Mexico, UK, Turkey, and Portugal).  A member of the Iyengar Yoga UK Association, I have held an Intermediate Junior 3 level teaching certificate for the past 7 years.  I currently teach weekly studio, private and corporate classes in SW London.

Having practiced Iyengar yoga 3 times while being pregnant, I am passionate about sharing the benefits of pregnancy and post natal yoga.  I also have a special interest in the health benefits of Iyengar yoga; particularly women ‘s health from menarche to menopause (menstruation, fertility/conception, pregnancy, post natal and peri/post menopause) and in restorative yoga to help alleviate stress/fatigue/adrenal exhaustion.

In addition, I completed Stephanie Quirk’s Iyengar Remedial Yoga training, This 3 years Remedial Yoga training included 6 modules (total of 144 hours) and covered anatomy and physiology in-depth applied to yoga therapy (including these systems: musculoskeletal, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, immune and reproductive/urinary).

Captivated by ancient Yogic philosophy, I am currently completing Gitte Beschsgaard and Sheila Haswell’s 2 years (4 modules) Yoga Sutra Philosophy Course.

I feel truly privileged for having studied twice with the Iyengar family at the Institute in Pune, India.  I am ever so grateful to all and each of my teachers and all my students who have taken me from the darkness of ignorance closer to the light of the soul.
