Iyengar yoga

Yoga, according to Patanjali (the father of yoga) is a system that develops concentration through a blend of a code of conduct (yamas and niyamas) physical poses (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and contemplative practices that lead towards meditation (dhyana).

Iyengar yoga is a form of hatha yoga (physical) developed by master BKS Iyengar.  Poses are explored with precise alignment to understand the living architecture of the body.  Progressive, safe and profoundly transformative, Iyengar yoga builds inner strength and stamina, flexibility and balance, concentration and meditation.  The Iyengar certification mark is a sign of excellence, clarity, and depth of understanding.

I have been practising yoga for 22 years and teaching for 16 years around the world (Mexico, the UK, Turkey, India and Portugal).  A member of the Iyengar Yoga UK Association, I hold an Intermediate Junior 3 level teaching.

Having practised Iyengar yoga 3 times while being pregnant, I am passionate about sharing the benefits of pregnancy and postnatal yoga.  I also have a special interest in the health benefits of Iyengar yoga; particularly women ‘s health from menarche to menopause (menstruation, fertility/conception, pregnancy, postnatal and peri/post menopause) and in restorative yoga to help alleviate stress/fatigue/adrenal exhaustion.

I completed Stephanie Quirk’s 3 years (6 modules/ 144 hours) Iyengar Remedial Yoga training in 2010.  It covered anatomy and physiology in-depth applied to yoga therapy (including these systems: musculoskeletal, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, immune and reproductive/urinary).

Captivated by ancient Yogic philosophy, I have completed the International Course on the Yoga Sūtras in Study and Practice with Gitte Beschsgaard and Sheila Haswell (2-years or 4-Modules). the Advanced Patanjali and Ishvara Pranidhama Courses.  I am currently studying the Jyotish and Mantra immersion Course (2-years or 4-Modules).

I have studied twice with the Iyengar family at the Institute in Pune, India. I am ever so grateful to all and each of my teachers and all my students who have taken me from the darkness of ignorance closer to the light of the soul.
